this was a video i came across while working on an assignment for my calculus class. this video just seemed to encompass what this whole first week was about for me, that how you choose to think will determine everything for you. its not the your inherent skill that will determine your success but your attitude about your situation. you can choose to always get angry or not try your best because you believe that something is inherent to you or you can choose to see the brighter side of things and always try your best. its these decisions that ultimately determine success and its in our power to just make the right chose. Personally i can learn from this because I've felt that any non-major related class isn't worth my time and as such i haven't been really putting in my full effort into these classes. eventually, should i continue to think this way, my grades will reflect my lack of effort or i can change my mindset and succeed in these classes

A challenge I've had to overcome this week has been my mindset. I've been to quick to get annoyed at the pacing of my classes, and its been making me have an agitated bored demeanor to some of these courses. i need to realize that not everyone has the same background in the material that i do, so while some things might be ungodly boring and simple to me, to others to may be the first time they've seen it and thus struggle with it.

  1. Hi Dylan!
The topic of your blog is something I think that many college students can relate to. I often question why I have to take an art class when I am an environmental science major. You are exactly right when you discuss the lack of effort that will come from that mindset. It is important to view every class as a new and unique learning opportunity. The substance of your blog is good. Maybe next time you could reread it a few times to catch small mistakes such as punctuation or capitalization errors!

  2. I completely agree with Emily, your blog is very relatable. In fact that's how I felt! I think this will help others overcome this exact feeling because trust me you are not the only one. I'm happy to read that you've successfully overcome this problem and just keep in mind that things can only get better!

music

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb24RrHIbFk this is a pretty popular song going around recently. While i normally dislike rap/ whatever kind of music this is, i found the lyrics and the video to be very deep. the song is about the feeling we all get of wanting to kill ourselves and hating existing, but then the lyrics take a turn to the prospective of a suicide hot line worker. the lyrics then go on to say how you should be alive, and the next verse turns into the suicidal guy saying he wants to be alive. what i found particularly interesting about this song is the way it was able to reach people through music that normal advice and talking could not. what i mean by this is that while everyone always says don't kill your self, it clearly doesn't work. however after this songs release, calls to the suicide hot line went up significantly. is this just because people now know the number to the hot line, as the title of the song is that number, or because the song was able to con...

Let me start off by saying how much i despised writing before this class. My past teachers always taught me to write using a super specific formula and it left me feeling like i didn't have a voice in my writing. In this class, i feel like i started to "find my voice" in my writing. I think this came about from learning about rhetoricity. i remember when we first were introduced to the concept of rhetoricity we watched a weird video and soul stared. i vividly remember thinking to myself "what the hell is going on". but eventually i think i got what it was. to me, rhetoricity was about how we communicate, that everything we do from body language, words, even just presents, sends a message. I think my best example of how i understood this is in my rhetoricity paper i wrote, which is linked here  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DBqKEzTFQKOV0DO7mkjgTVDm_XaYwYsZSaBZUlW-_K4/edit . Another good example that show my comprehension of rhetorical knowledge would prob...
